Nestled on the 500 m long beach on the north coastline of Crete is the famous Aquila Rithymna Beach, a popular place for wedding destinations. Situated just a 10-minute drive from ancient Rethymnon Town, one of Greece's best preserved medieval towns. You will be enchanted by the large Fortezza (fortress), which guards Rethymnon from the top of an imposing headland. Head to the harbour with the colourful fishing boats and the honey-coloured lighthouse built by the Turks in the 16th Century. This historical harbour is littered with the finest fish restaurants, waterside taverns and cafes where you can sit and watch the world go by. Further into the town, you can meander through the little alleyways and cobbled streets adorned with souvenir shops and craft shops where you can find beach dresses and various Cretan soaps, herbs, honey and lotions made from olive oil.
