Weddings in the Caribbean

The home of the classic beachfront wedding, the Caribbean is a vast and richly varied place, a tapestry of hundreds of different tropical islands spread across a calm and bright blue ocean. People celebrate their weddings in the Caribbean as much to get away from it all as they do to revel in that famous Caribbean party spirit. We’re talking rum punch, beach BBQs, scuba diving and off-road 4x4 adventures. From the beauty of the Bahamas to the serenity of St. Lucia, we’ve got Caribbean weddings well and truly covered.

What To Expect From Your Caribbean Wedding

Each destination can offer you a stunning wedding. You can go for an in-resort wedding, or an independent venue such as a plantation or private villa terrace. An all-inclusive trip with in-resort coordinators, to a beach front boutique with the helping hand of an Island Wedding Planner. From complementary packages to the full affair with photobooths, dancefloors and wish lanterns. Speak to a member of our team to help you choose the country and wedding design best suited to you.

Legalities, Requirements, & Same-Sex Weddings

Requirements vary per destination, with a couple Island exceptions, you should expect to need to arrive 3 business days before your symbolic wedding, and up to 4 business days before a legal ceremony.

Your legal fees, such as the notary and translation costs are not included in your wedding package, however some resorts will include the services of a judge or minister in their more comprehensive packages. Your dedicated in-resort wedding coordinator will help you with the legal arrangements. After your ceremony, you will be sent your notarised and translated marriage license to your home address. This can take 8 – 12 weeks to come through.

Same-sex marriages are currently only legal in Mexico and Costa Rica. Other destinations, such as the Dominican Republic is suitable for a symbolic wedding in an adult-only resort. Unfortunately, most destinations, due to their religious history and culture, currently do not allow legal or symbolic weddings, but are LGBT friendly for holidays and honeymooners.

Group Bookings

Many resorts will offer you and your party a form of group benefits. This can range from free rooms and room upgrades, extra events for your wedding, or extra amenities. A selection of resorts will do this for you, without any need for a group booking deposit, or everybody needing to book at the same time. It’s easy and convenient for you and your friends and family. If you’re looking to launch your own wedding website, we can offer you a selection of prices and special offer details to share. To receive these benefits, you’ll often need to avoid certain dates as usually Easter and Christmas week would be excluded, and you and your guests need to be booked through the same company. Speak to a member of our team about your party size and needs and they can advise what’s best for your wedding.

Caribbean Weddings FAQs

As there are many resorts across the Caribbean dedicated to couples, weddings in the Caribbean are not hugely expensive. In fact, many wedding ceremonies are included in the price of your stay. Flights and accommodation are the elements that will add to the cost, but if you are able to plan ahead and book in advance, you can usually find some great deals. A full week at an all-inclusive resort, with wedding included, can be yours for between £3000 and £5000.
The Caribbean as a whole is a popular place to get married, but the most popular Caribbean wedding spots include Jamaica and the Bahamas. The former boasts grand resorts with lavish all-inclusive options, whereas the latter is renowned for its secluded island archipelagos and incredible snorkelling. St. Lucia is another popular choice, for a quieter, more refined Caribbean wedding.
Different resorts will add different elements to their Caribbean wedding packages; however, we can help tailor a custom package to suit you. We understand that no two weddings are the same. At a basic level, all packages should include a UK and local wedding planner, symbolic ceremony, bridal bouquets, cake and sparkling wine for toasting.
